The Kootenay River is one of Western Canada’s jewels. Starting high in the Canadian Rocky Mountains the Kootenay is one of the headwaters for the Columbia river. The crystal clear blue water runs swiftly over glacier till through a deep mountain valley. This trip features:
Fantastic Mountain scenery
Wildlife viewing featuring Bald Eagles, Kokanee salmon, sand pipers, deer, elk and bears
The river hosts flatwater floating to bouncy whitewater rapids.
Beautiful side Waterfalls, including the famous Pedley falls.

Itinerary:
Aug 14 Arrive at Crook Meadows Campground
Aug 15 Set up boats at the Put In (Settlers Road Bridge), arrange car shuttle, Push off and start paddling.
Aug 16 Day 2 on the river.
Aug 17 Day 3 We will paddle to the take out at Canal Flats by early afternoon. Say our
goodbyes and head home.

Shuttle fee (shuttle options will be discussed later depending on numbers)
Pre-requisites:
participants must have prior experience paddling class 2 rivers
Strong eddy turn and ferry skills
Backcountry camping experience

- take the Rocky Mountain Paddling Centre Tandem River canoe course
